Weather
Forecast is hot and sunny. It seems quite humid.
I woke up early but decided to sleep on. When I woke again
at 08:30 I could easily have dropped off again. I went for breakfast at about
09:00. I had two fried eggs with some bacon, a roll and toast. I had a pot of
tea again. After breakfast I went to the pool. It is supposed to open at 10:00
but nobody came, so I went in and swam anyway. It is cloudy but warm. This
morning I could practice my swimming techniques in the pool and lie on the
sunbed without worrying to much about getting burned. The pool water is a bit
colder than the pool at Caldicot Leisure Centre.
I’ve had a sore throat and a cough since Monday, which is
not great. Hopefully it will clear up soon. I slept for a bit in the afternoon
and then went across the road to Civico 01, a pizza place.
I mentioned the following to Keith:
The Rugby was on the TV in the hotel foyer as I went out.
I’m guessing that I could find it on the TV in my room. It is really quiet in
Montesilvano. It is definitely past the end of the tourist season and the
athletes have only just started to arrive. It is certainly difficult to go very
low carb here.
The hotel breakfast buffet has cereals, cakes, croissants
etc, all items that I am avoiding, certainly while I am ill. I’ve had a bit of
a bug since Monday, sore throat and cough; and feeling woozy, definitely under
the weather, so I don’t want a sugar overdose to compound my misery. For
breakfast I am choosing cold ham, cheese and boiled eggs, or a couple of fried
eggs and some bacon. I do have a bread roll or toast to go with it. I avoid
lunch and have an early dinner.
There are three establishments across the road from my
hotel, Civico 01, Caffetteria Gelateria Davide, and Sughero. The latter is a
food and wine bar. I had a beer at Caffetteria Gelateria Davide while I was
waiting for Civico to open (it opened at 19:15). Tonight I started with a trio
of Bruschette (Caprese would have been lower carb) , then the lamb on skewers
with roast vegetables. Tiramisu followed, as a treat, and then an espresso.
Then the German guy on the tavalo next to me, a chap called Christian Fitza,
went and bought me a ridiculous shot of something fiery for a nightcap.
Christian is an M75 sprinter who started going to these events 16 years ago. We
have never met before this evening so it was nice to make his acquaintance.
I have photos of a pizza at a pizza place in Pescara
yesterday, in a street with pavement cafes (also photographed), plus photos are
of tonight’s meal. It was getting quite busy as I was finishing. They have a
captive audience really, there is not much else about.
Pescara is 30 minutes away on the bus and the last bus home
is at 21:30. If I’m still not feeling great, I will stay here tomorrow and not
venture to Pescara until Sunday morning, when I will watch the cross country. I
shall see how I feel after my morning swim in the pool.
slept for seven hours. I went down to breakfast quite early
(just after 07:00). I had breakfast of melon, pineapple, yogurt, ham, cheese,
two eggs and a roll and butter with a pot of tea.
I went back to my room for more sleep. Then I went to the
pool for a swim. In the afternoon, I walked along the seafront for a bit. I had
a beer and crisps. I got the bus to Pescara. I drew some money out. I had
pizza, red wine and water. I got the bus back and had two bottles of beer at
the hotel. I also had a protein shake.
I was very tired and my left hip was aching.
I had an early night
